WHATEVER HAPPENED TO MESSIAHCAM?
In 1998, Exploits Ministry put a high-quality web camera on the top of the Mount of Olives, looking down on the eastern wall of Jerusalem's Old City and the 'Golden Gate'
We called this 'Messiahcam' as it provided a live view 24 hours a day of the very place where Christian, Jewish and Muslim traditions say the messiah will enter the Holy City by unsealing this gate.
Over the past eight years, hundreds of thousands of 'virtual pilgrims' have been able to visit Jerusalem and fulfill the Biblical commandment to 'pray for the peace of Jerusalem' while watching for the return of Messiah.
Quite simply, the breathtaking view our camera offered to the world has been obliterated by illegal housing construction on the Mount of Olives.
You have repeatedly heard the outcry of Arab propaganda about Israelis building so-called 'illegal settlements', but the press pays no attention to the other side of the story- Arabs illegally constructing houses and expanding existing structures without any planning permission. This is what happened on the Mount of Olives. Almost overnight, several homeowners on a lower slope of the Mount added several stories to the top of their existing property and then crowned the new floors with water tanks and solar panels. The Jerusalem municipality is apparently reluctant to step in, fearing this would inflame local reaction.
Not only has Messiahcam's view of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount been ruined, but ironically a nearby television studio used by Arab news channels has also had its unobstructed vista destroyed. The facility, in which thousands of dollars had been invested, is now worthless and abandoned.
We are deeply saddened to lose this special freature of our website, but do continue to pray for Jerusalem and keep watching for Messiah. You won't need a computer or web camera to know when He comes!
The sealed Golden Gate through which Messiah will enter Jerusalem
